How long does uncontrolled diabetes take to effect the eyes/cause blindness?
I know an African American male with diabetes and hypertension, mid 30's, normal body weight, diagnosed with diabetes about 3 years ago. He became blind in one eye, the other eye is bleeding and retina tearing. I understand it varies for everyone is this caused by not controlling the diabetes hypertension? Im asking because the patient is claiming that they take great care of their sugar and blood pressure. My guess is my friend is not?

My hands are sticky when I wake up. If this a sign of diabetes?
A week ago I woke with my left hand sticky. Soon the right one was too. I've tried rubbing and have used four different kinds of soap, including dish washing soap. The only thing that gets rid of it is wetting my hands and scrubbing with salt. This has happened three times in the past week. My blood sugar is 77 taken by a friend so I don't know when I ate.

I have several symtoms of diabetes, so I'm getting tested this week. So I was at a party and I started drinking...later in the night I got very light headed and was freezing horribly. Is this another sign that I might have diabetes? Does drinking with diabetes make that happen?

Hi, I am a female on my husbands accounts . I have type 1 diabetes, and I gain a lot of weight in my stomach to where I look pregnant. I generally take my insulin in my stomach, so I'm uncertain if this is why. It's really annoying because I get asked if I am pregnant a lot I'm not , and I do look like I am, sometimes. And then with my birth control, sometimes I bloat, and I REALLY look pregnant then. What can I do? Is there like a better diet plan for diabetics I can follow? I don't eat a lot, so I know it's not really because of that. I do need to exercise, though.

Diabetes and kidney failure diet question...?
We have been trying to find books that contain recipes with foods that have low sodium, sugar and phospherous I think that is how it is spelled P . Needless to say, this have been a very hard task Can anyone here please offer some suggestions for diet for someone that has diabetes and kidney failure?
