Health – What Can You Do About It?

“Health is not everything, but everything without health is nothing.” I read this phrase a couple of years ago but its impact was so powerful that it has remained etched in my memory.

In Singapore, one recent case to illustrate this phrase was a very rich man who tried to buy a kidney to replace his failed kidney. Unfortunately it was against the law and he was caught and jailed. Fortunately it was for a very short jail term. Also fortunately, somebody “donated” a kidney to him. However, he still has all the usual related health issues like diabetes, high-blood pressure and so on.

Therefore if you neglect to do all that is necessary to maintain your good health you will suffer and regret it later on in life.

Very soon you will be afflicted with one form of impairment, disorder or disability after another. The intensity or frequency or seriousness escalates. Soon it spirals out of control.

You simply have to be mindful of all the necessary precautions and actions to be taken and be disciplined enough to follow them.

Let’s just take three examples.

First take for example the over consumption of salt, or Sodium Chloride. I used to like my food salty, but now I know that it can increase my blood pressure and thus I have drastically reduced my salt intake. The problem is that it is over a period of time before you are pronounced "Hypertensive ", and Hypertension is for Life.

Salt also causes you to retain water, which can cause bloating and make you look fatter, and problems of intestinal and gastric nature. Don’t you think it would be wiser to control the intake of salt from now on?

Secondly what about the often neglected advice to exercise regularly? In times of recession, we might not be able to join a gym membership. However, we could simply put on a comfortable pair of proper running shoes and go for brisk walks or go running at a nearby track or a beautiful park.

What are some tips on running for beginners? The number one rule is to stretch! If you do not stretch properly you will notice pain or you may pull your muscles etc.

Take it easy and target for a 30 minute cardio workout. On your first time warm up for 5 minutes, run for 5 minutes and walk for 20 minutes. Increase your run time until you can run most of the 30 minutes.

The third and final example is to have good dental hygiene. A good advice is to brush your teeth two to three times a day, which means after each meal. This will help you reduce plaque.

It would be better if you could floss your teeth to remove food trapped in between your teeth. All this effort will be well rewarded. You will have fewer fillings and less tooth aches or gum disease in your more advanced age.

You will also maintain a better quality of life or self esteem by preserving speech and eating functions as your teeth will last longer. You can avoid being embarrassed by your bad breath or missing or unsightly teeth

Why do people worry so much about their health?
I have seen people who eat healthy and exercise a lot and for what? Some of them end up getting sick of something or even die. If it's not a health issue it will be a car accident or something else. On the other hand I have seen people who drink and smoke or eat a lot of junk food and they live normal lives. I eat a lot of greasy foods daily and I never get sick. I rarely eat fruits and vegetables and never exercise. I used to work as a roofer but now I have a job at a warehouse so I don't sweat as much. I am not saying that you should be a junk food eating slob like me but when the time comes for you to die, its not gonna matter how much weights you lift or how fast you can run on the treadmill. SO I repeat my question, Why do people worry so much about their health?

What does this mean in oral health?
ok, i thought my wisdom teeth were comeing in but they aparently were my 12 yr molars, and now there is NO room 4 any more teeth at all. Were those my wisdom teeth, will i still get them if not, and if im gonna get the wisdom teeth do they need to be pulled.

Will smoking once in a while still effect your health?
I smoked for the first time like a couple days ago, and the only reason I did it was because I was with a couple friends and one of them was smoking, and I just wanted to try it once.. and I told myself that I was just going to try it once, that's it, and I'll never do it again. But after that day, I actually started craving it.. like when I'm going somewhere or walking down the street and I smell the cigarette smoke from other people who are smoking, i start craving it.. Then, yesterday, I was with my friend again the one who smokes , and he was smoking, and the smell made me crave it.. so I started smoking with him.. I don't want to be one of those people who like smoke a pack a day or something.. so I thought, maybe I could smoke like once or twice a week.. and this way, it gives the cilia in my lungs to clean out all the toxins and stuff in my lungs so that the tar and stuff don't get packed on in my lungs like it would if I smoked everyday.. Does that make sense?? p lol but yeah, like if I smoke once or twice a week, it will minimize my health risks and stuff right??

How i can preserve my health?
I want to be healthy all the day

Is treatment for high testosterone / PCOS imperative for females' health?
I'm 19 and I went to the doctor to see what I can do about hair growth on my stomach and chest and my blood test showed that my testosterone was around 17 normal range for female my age is 0.8 to 7.4 . So I've been taking some herbal pills given to me by my doctor like aptogen and ovablend and the decrease in my libido makes me want to stop taking it and just pay for electrolysis or something. I'm not worried about PCOS affecting my fertility because at this point I don't want kids and I can always adopt but is lowering my testosterone crucial to my health in other ways?In response to 3rd answer my blood sugar was tested and it showed that it was normal but my doctor said that didn't mean much since it varies a lot throughout the day. So if I have elevated insulin then does that mean I'll most likely become diabetic later on in life?

What's more dangerous to your health, hookah or cigarettes?

I would like some minor mental health help?
I'm not going insane or anything, but I just want to improve my mental health, or just indentify any problems. I have sweaty palms, I seem to be loosing my short term memory, because it used to be good, but now it seems to be terrible, but only in certain things. I'm very easily distracted now, but only for a few minutes after masturbation. Any thoughts or answers would be much appreciated, thank you

What's my best route in healing my many health problems?
Let's see here...I have chronic sinus problems even though I had surgery to fix all that , insomnia because of my sleep apnea chronic sinus problems , depression anxiety because I haven't had a good night's sleep in over 30 years , fibromyalgia rheumatoid arthritus, and now I'm pre menopausal and am suffering through plenty of hot flashes. I have a gluten intolerance and a lactose intolerance. I'm 47 and don't know who to go to first for all my problems...acupuncturist? Nutritionist? Even though my previous nutritionist pretty much ruined me? Regular doctor? I'm sick of being sick and tired of being tired. I want relief from all my health woes, and do NOT wish to go to dozens of doctors for each little health problem. I'm also nervous about seeing an ENT, since my previous ENT seemed to ruin me with her substandard surgery which has caused me to get a sinus infection, on average, once every single month.I also want to start taking probiotics but am unable to take them first thing in the morning...would last thing at night be just as effective?

Approaching Boyfriend's Mental Health?
I want to approach my boyfriend about addressing some mental health issues he might have and could use some guidance.I am not trained in the field but I believe he may have something along the lines of bi polar personality disorder. I love him very much and would like to stay with him but I am at my wits end so I was going to suggest he seek counseling or even just try to be more conscientious about it. It's emotionally taxing so I need action to be taken but I am terrified of his response because of his Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde mood swings.I need advice in dealing with people like this. I know he has a history of other mental problems including very serious obsessive compulsive disorder for which he received counseling as a boy. I also know that his father also exhibits this kind of bipolar behavior. Which also makes me worry he might think it's acceptable .In the past when I've brought up other concerns not mental health I've been met with great hostility. Please help, if there is a way to stay with this guy I want to, but I feel like when his Mr. Hyde side comes out he's not even there. We're both 24 but you may be right about us still maturing and learning to deal with our emotions. I don't want him to think he's not good enough. I just want him to be able to feel better and not get so upset and I need to have a way to deal with him when he's mean. Your suggestion about avoiding him then seems good. We're both a bit argumentative too, maybe if I can catch that before it starts I can avoid triggering some of these episodes?I'm sorry to hear that " Back Again" . From what I've read your psychotic manic episodes are quite severe, but thank you for sharing about your experience with it.I think you could be a little more polite in your response. Of course I don't know the lingo as well as you do, you are living with it. But you're right its not hyphenated and it's a mood disorder not a personality disorder. You're also right that he probably doesn't actually have Bipolar Disorder, although there is a related disorder with mood swings that fit into the course of a day.But what I was asking was for help approaching someone I love with something I'm concerned about. His verbal abuse and sudden anger are not normal and need to be addressed. He does have a history of mental health issues, so they could very well be playing a role. And forgive me if I take your relationship advice with a grain of salt as you openly admitted to your 'hypersexuality'.
